on Tuesday between supporters of the self-styled godman Rampal, who is wanted on murder charges, and the Haryana police left 206 people injured, including 25 journalists. After a stand-off of several day, a 3,000-strong police contingent tried to enter Rampal's Satlok Ashram, located on the outskirts of Hisar city. In response, his supporters fired country-made weapons from inside the ashram and threw petrol bombs at the police. They also threatened to burn themselves if the police came near near the property. Eventually, authorities called off the operation because of fears of further violence.  At least 2,000 of Rampal's followers are still inside the complex. The police will resume their operation on Wednesday.

Centre will not reduce upper age limit, number of attempts for civil service examsThe Centre on Tuesday announced that it will not consider a reduction in the upper age limit for those appearing in the union civil service examination from 2015, as proposed by the previous United Progressive Alliance-led government. According to the proposed norm, the upper age limit could have been 29 years for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, 28 years for those belonging to Other Backward Classes and 26 for aspirants in the unreserved category. The government, however, will stick to the current upper age limit for SC/ST candidates at 35. It is 33 for OBC aspirants, and 30 for aspirants from the unreserved category. .

Man tests positive for Ebola at Delhi airport despite treatment in LiberiaA 26-year-old Indian citizen, who was treated and cured of the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia,has been quarantined at an isolation ward in New Delhi airport's health facility after testing positive on arrival. Despite no indication of Ebola in his blood samples, the deadly virus reportedly showed up in his semen. Authorities have kept the man under strict surveillance at the isolation ward. "During recovery from Ebola, patients continue to shed the virus in body fluids," said Dr VM Katoch, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, on Tuesday. "Due to presence of the virus in his semen, it's possible that he could transmit the disease through sexual contact for up to 90 days after cure."

NIA arrest Myanmarese national in connection with Burdwan blastsThe National Investigation Agency on Tuesday arrested Khalid Mohammad, a Myanmarese national allegedly trained by a Pakistani terror group, in connection with the probe into last month’s blast at Burdwan in West Bengal. According to investigators, Khalid allegedly ran terror camps along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border. "This arrest points at a network which is breeding in West Bengal where jihadis working against" the two countries are collaborating, said an NIA official. "Khalid is a vital link between terror organisations in Bangladesh and Myanmar WORKING FROM the soil of Bengal and even other parts of the country." Investigations into the October 2 Burdwan blast, in which two operatives of a Bangladeshi militant outfit were killed, have exposed a widespread cross-border terror network.
