CONTROL YOUR PHONE AND FIND WHEN IT WILL BE LOST
Android Device Manager is a Google’s official and easy-to-use tool to track your Android phone or tablet. The best thing about it is that you don’t need to install an app to be able to track your devices. The only requirement is that your device is connected to your Google account, turned on and connected to the internet.
Besides tracking, letting your phone ring and wiping your phone (which has to be enabled manually), Android Device Manager doesn’t offer more options to remote control your phone. Hopefully, Google will work on that and offer more features, such as taking pictures in case it got stolen and you want to know who took it.
In case there’s no laptop around when you lose your device, you can also use someone else’s Android phone to track it. Instead of using the mobile browser, you can also use the Android Device Manager app. If you the other phone doesn’t have it, simply download it here. You can sign in using the guest mode and your Google account credentials. Now you should be able to track your lost device, let it ring or wipe its data.
Requirements:
- Your device is connected with your Google account.
- Your device has access to the internet.
- Allowed Android Device Manager (ADM) to locate your device (turned on by default). This can changed in the Google Settings app.
- Allowed ADM to lock your device and erase its data (turned off by default).

IT WILL GIVE LOCATION OF YOUR PHONE
FEATURE 1: You left your phone on silent |
Sometimes you are in a meeting at work. And being a nice guy you put your phone on silent. But later the same evening you need to make a phone call but cannot find your phone. No point in calling it since it is on silent. Did you leave it in the bedroom? Or in the sofa? With AndroidLost installed you simply go to the internet and click on Controls->Alarm. The phone should immediately sound the siren at highest volume.
|
FEATURE 2: You left your phone at home |
Just got to work after a hard weekend. So nice to sit down and relax a bit. But you forgot your phone at home and you are expecting an important call from a customer. With AndroidLost you can forward your calls since you can enter keys to the dialer: Controls->Mobile->Dial phone. You can also check if there is any new SMS'es in your inbox and even send SMS'es from your phone: Controls->Messages->SMS post.
|
FEATURE 3: Forgot your phone at the local coffee shop |
Do you know that weird feeling of not having your phone in your pocket? But did you leave it in the pub yesterday or did you forget it at home? Or maybe it is stolen. By clicking Controls->Location->GPS the app will try to locate your mobile with GPS precision. If it cannot get a fix within a minute it will try to get a location with network accuracy. If that also fails it will send the last known location to your email. In any case you should get a good idea about where your phone is located.
|
FEATURE 4: Thief stole your phone and using your sim card - tracking and photo |
Let us say that your phone was stolen and a thief is now using your phone with your simcard. You might want to track him down and tell the police where he is. First of all you should forward all your mail to a secondary email account so the thief does not know that you are searching for him. With the app you can take a picture with the front facing camera if you have android 2.3 installed. Simply click: Controls->Mobile->Front Camera. Then use the GPS location feature to track him down.
|
FEATURE 5: Thief stole your phone and using your sim card - lock or wipe |
You might have some personal data on your phone that you do not want a thief to see. Maybe you have some business related mails, some pictures of your lovely wife (or mistress) or maybe you just do not want anyone to read your private email. With AndroidLost you can lock your phone with a pincode so the thief cannot get access to personal account: Controls->Security->Lock Phone. But he can still take out your SD card and watch your images / documents. So if you have a backup go ahead and erase your SD card by clicking: Controls->Security->Erase SD Card. Or you might want to wipe your phone. This will erase you personal settings, mail account, SMS'es, contacts, installed app, etc. Do not do it unless you are sure that you really want to. Click: Controls->Security->Wipe phone.
|
FEATURE 6: Thief has disabled wifi and network - the SMS control |
OK, what if the thief disabled wifi and network data? Then the website cannot connect to the mobile. Fear not! I have implemented a few SMS controls that will allow you to start the alarm, locate by GPS, lock and unlock the phone, erase the SD card and wipe the phone. And only the mobiles that you have allowed can send SMS commands to your phone. And of course the SMS'es that starts with androidlost will not appear in the SMS inbox, no sound should be played and no notification in the top bar. Have a look at Controls->Security->SMS allow.
